Suez Canal Authority Studies expansion of the southern part of the canal

The head of the Suez Canal Authority, Osama Rabei, said today that the Suez Canal Authority is studying the expansion of the southern part of the waterway, where the container ship, Evergiven, was stranded, stressing that "our procedures are sound, we only aim to improve the service."

The Securities and Commodities Authority said it will continue to take ships the size of Evergiven and enhance its ability to deal with future problems, and Rabie added that the company is also considering purchasing cranes that can unload loads at heights of up to 52 meters. "We will try to get two other boats with more than 200 tons - 250 and 280, depending on that," Rabie said, adding, "If there is a 250-meter-long section that needs to be expanded, we might make it 400 meters."
