The US economy added more jobs than expected in August
The employment report issued by the US Department of Labor showed that the US economy added 187 thousand jobs in August, and the July data was revised downward to 157 thousand jobs instead of the previously announced 187 thousand jobs.
Analysts' expectations were that the US economy would add 170,000 jobs in August, and the economy needs to create nearly 100,000 jobs per month to keep up with the increase in the working-age population.
The unemployment rate rose to 3.8% in August from 3.5% in July Average hourly earnings rose 0.2% in August after a 0.4% increase in July Year over year wages rose 4.3% in August after rising 4.4% in July .
