China's trade slump eases as signs of stabilization appear

Customs data showed that China's exports fell year-on-year by 8.8% in August after falling by 14.5% in July, and imports fell by 7.3% in August from 12.4% in July.

South Korean shipments to China, a key indicator of recent imports, fell by only a fifth in August, slowing from a 27.5% decline in July, another sign of stabilizing conditions in China.

Trade with Japan fell sharply as outbound shipments from China to Japan fell year-on-year by 20% in August, and China recorded a trade surplus of $68.36 billion in August from $80.6 billion in July.
