US unemployment claims rose last week

The US Department of Labor said that unemployment claims in the United States rose by two thousand applications to 204 thousand seasonally adjusted applications for the week ending September 23. Analysts expected US unemployment claims to record 215 thousand applications last week, and US unemployment claims this month remained at The lower end of its range of 194K-265K for 2023.

Continuing unemployment claims rose by 12,000 to a still low 1.670 million applications during the week ending September 16, and the unemployment rate had risen to 3.8% in August from 3.5% in July.

The National Association of Realtors said that the pending home sales index in the United States fell by 7.1% to 71.8 in August from 77.3 in July, which is the largest decline since September 2022, and on an annual basis, pending home sales fell by 18.7% in August.
