Wall Street rises as US Treasury yields fall to their lowest level in two weeks
The three main US stock indices rose today, with record ten-year US Treasury bond yields falling to their lowest levels in nearly two weeks, as the war in the Middle East between Israel and Hamas continues to rage.
The energy index (.SPNY) fell 1.4%, and Exxon Mobil shares fell 3.6% after the oil and gas production company agreed to buy its competitor Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD.N) in an all-stock deal worth $59.5 billion. Pioneer shares closed higher By 1.4%.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 65.57 points, or 0.19%, to 33,804.87 points. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 18.71 points, or 0.43%, to 4,376.95 points. The Nasdaq Composite Index also rose 96.83 points, or 0.71%, to 13,659.68 points.
