Georgieva: The conflict between Israel and Hamas is a new cloud casting a shadow on the economic outlook
Kristalina Georgieva, Director of the International Monetary Fund, said in a press conference on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Marrakesh, Morocco, that the conflict between Israel and Hamas is a new cloud casting a shadow on the economic outlook.
Georgieva stressed, "We are closely monitoring how the situation is developing and how it is affecting, especially the oil markets," adding that there have been some fluctuations in oil prices and reactions in the markets, but it is too early to predict the economic impact.
Georgieva added that severe shocks have become the new normal in a global economy characterized by weak growth, economic fragmentation, and exacerbating differences, with interest rates expected to remain high for a longer period to curb ongoing inflation.
