US import prices fell below expectations in September
Data showed that import prices in the United States rose by 0.1% in September after rising by 0.6% in August, and analysts expected that import prices would rise by 0.5% in September.
On an annual basis, import prices fell by 1.7% in September after falling by 2.9% in August, declining for the eighth month in a row. With the exception of oil, import prices fell by 0.3%, imported fuel prices rose by 4.4%, while imported food prices fell by 1.3%.
Prices of basic imports, which exclude fuel and food, fell by 0.1% in September after falling by 0.3% in August. On an annual basis, prices of basic imports fell by 1.1% in September.
