Trump celebrates innocence and accuses Democrats of corruption
US President Donald Trump celebrated his acquittal of the charges against him, and accused Democrats of making a "corrupt" effort to undermine his presidential efforts in a speech that lasted more than an hour.
Trump was acquitted of the abuse of power to pressure Ukraine to investigate political rival Joe Biden, who is a candidate to be the Democratic candidate in the US presidential elections in November, as well as obstructing congressional investigations into the issue.
The Republican-controlled Senate voted on Wednesday to clear Trump of charges brought by the Democrat-led House of Representatives and Trump's innocence was the biggest victory yet for his Democratic opponents in Congress who attacked Senate Republicans for refusing to call witnesses or request new evidence at the trial.
