Conte: Italy may adopt closures to tackle the Coronavirus
Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said in a press interview that Italy may apply well-directed lockdowns when necessary to contain the spread of the coronavirus, stressing, "At the present time I rule out the possibility of a general lockdown, but if necessary there could be well-directed closures."
Conte told La Stampa daily that "today the situation in Italy is definitely better than it is in other European countries, and we are better prepared even as a health system to face a possible return to the spread of the virus."
Conte added that the European Union’s proposal to reform immigration and asylum rules was a "first step, but it is not sufficient."
