Historic turnout for early voting in the US presidential election

More than 60 million Americans cast their votes in the US presidential elections eight days ago, a record pace that could lead to the highest voter turnout in more than a century, according to data from the US Election Project.

Michael MacDonald, a professor at the University of Florida who directs the US election project, said he expects a record turnout of 150 million Americans, who represent 65% of eligible voters, the highest rate since 1908.

Democrats have a huge advantage in early voting because of the mail ballot that Republicans have historically cast in large numbers but have avoided it amid repeated baseless attacks by Trump, who says the system is vulnerable to widespread fraud.
