US budget deficit hits $ 163 billion in January
The US Treasury Department said today that the budget deficit in the United States rose to a record high of 163 billion dollars in January, compared with a budget deficit of 130 billion dollars during the same period last year.
Revenues increased by 3% to $ 385 billion in January compared to $ 372 billion in the same period last year, and expenditures increased by 35% to $ 547 billion in January, compared to $ 404 billion in the same period last year.
During the first four months of fiscal year 2021, the budget deficit increased by 89% to $ 736 billion, compared to $ 389 billion in the same period of fiscal year 2020, with expenditures rising to $ 1.92 trillion.
