The ECB has ample time to plan an exit from the pandemic bond purchases
European Central Bank policymaker Francois Villeroy said today that the European Central Bank has had plenty of time to map out its exit from its pandemic bond-buying program and may be more flexible about buying it afterward.
"We still have plenty of time to judge and make a decision after our meeting in June," Villeroy added, in a speech at the Dansky Bank's online conference, and made clear that the amount the European Central Bank buys will be freely set until at least March when the program ends.
Villeroy emphasized that the European Central Bank has other policy tools at hand to keep financing conditions easy, and these unconventional tools are there to stay away from Covid-19 and its crisis tools, which means that our monetary policy can remain available as much as necessary as long as it is necessary.
