German exports rise in April
The Federal Statistical Office said that German exports, seasonally adjusted, rose 0.3% in April after rising 1.3% in March after an upward revision, the eleventh consecutive increase driven by increased trade with the United States, in a sign of continued recovery in Europe's largest economy.
Exports to the US rose 59.9% compared to the same period last year, exports to China rose 16% and sales to the UK increased 64%, the first increase since the beginning of the year and the UK's completion of its exit from the European Union. The data showed that German imports fell 1.7% in April after rising 7.1% in March, and the trade surplus grew to 15.9 billion euros in April from 14 billion euros in March.
