Draghi: Our goal is to return economic activity to its level at least before the epidemic
Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said today that the prolonged economic uncertainty due to the coronavirus pandemic means that the case for monetary and fiscal expansion remains compelling.
Draghi, who leads the National Unity Department in Italy, added to an economic forum in Barcelona that the goal should be to return economic activity to the path it was at least before the epidemic.
"With activity levels higher than before, we can offset the increase in debt that occurred during the health crisis," Draghi emphasized, adding that investors need to be reassured that fiscal prudence will return once the recovery is self-sustaining.
