US job opportunities rise in May
The US Department of Labor said today that job opportunities available in the United States rose by 16 thousand jobs to 9.2 million jobs in May, and analysts had expected that available job opportunities would rise to 9.39 million jobs in May. The jobs available in the service sector increased by 109 thousand jobs, while there were 46 thousand additional jobs in government education and local government. The employment crisis is expected to recede in the fall with the reopening of schools and the suspension of government-funded unemployment benefits.
The data showed that employment fell to 5.9 million in May, compared to 6.0 million in April, and the number of people who left their jobs voluntarily fell to 3.6 million in May, compared to 4.0 million in April, with high levels of leaving work in the entertainment, hospitality and accommodation sectors.
