Musk: Tesla will resume accepting bitcoin as payments
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said the company will likely re-accept bitcoin as payments once it does its due diligence on the amount of renewable energy used to mine the coin, after Tesla said in May it would stop accepting bitcoin for car purchases less than two months after the company began accepting The largest digital currency in the world for payment.
The price of Bitcoin rose 8% to $32,160.16 and Ether rose 11.6% to $193.36, Tesla shares fell 0.8% to $655.30, and Musk confirmed that he personally owns Bitcoin, Ethereum and Dogecoin. "I wanted more due diligence to stress that the percentage of renewable energy use is likely to be 50% or higher and that there is a trend towards increasing that number and if so Tesla will resume accepting bitcoin," Musk added.
