The US House of Representatives is expected to pass a bill to raise the debt ceiling
The Democratic-controlled US House of Representatives is expected to give final approval to a bill passed by the Senate that temporarily raises the government's borrowing limit to $28.9 trillion, delaying the risk of default until early December. Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told reporters following Tuesday's vote that she hoped there would be a future bipartisan solution to the debt ceiling issue despite a warning from prominent Republican Senator Mitch McConnell that his party would not help next time.
Pelosi added that she is optimistic that Democrats can make changes to reduce the cost of their social policy plans in a timely manner, and stressed that she will not introduce any legislation to the House of Representatives if it cannot pass in the Senate.
