US imports rise in September, supported by higher food and energy costs

The US Labor Department said today that US import prices rose 0.4% in September after declining 0.3% in August, and on an annualized basis import prices rose 9.2% in the twelve months to September versus 8.9% in August. Core import prices, excluding fuel and food, declined 0.1% in September, and on an annual basis, core import prices rose 4.7% in the twelve months to September.

Export prices rose 0.1% in September after rising 0.4% in August, and on an annual basis export prices rose 16.3% in September, agricultural export prices fell 1.7% while non-agricultural export prices rose 0.3%.
