US stocks rise as bond buying ends in March
The three major US stock indexes rose today after the Federal Reserve said it would end its bond purchases in March and also paved the way for three interest rate increases of a quarter of a percentage point by the end of 2022. Apple Inc rose 0.8%, while (NVDA.O) stock rose 2.6%, and the utilities sector (.SPLRCU) rose 1.1%, and data showed that US retail sales rose 0.3% in November.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.29% to 35,646.5 points, the Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 0.31% to 4,648.6 points, and the Nasdaq Composite Index rose 0.09% to 15,251.62 points.
