US industrial activity falls to its lowest level in a year in December
Data released by Markit Corporation today showed that the manufacturing purchasing managers' index in the United States fell to 57.8 points in the first half of December, compared to 58.3 points in November, the lowest level since December 2020. The services purchasing managers' index fell to 57.5 points in December compared to 58.0 points in November, and the service sector inputs price scale rose to 77.4 points, the highest level since the beginning of the series in 2009, compared to 75.7 points in November.
The survey data showed that the composite Purchasing Managers' Index, which combines the industrial and service sectors in the world's largest economy, fell to 56.9 points in December, compared to 57.2 points in November.
