US import prices rise to 11-year high in March
The US Department of Labor said that import prices in the United States rose 2.6% in March, the largest increase since April 2011, compared to 1.6% in February, and on an annual basis, import prices rose 12.5% in March, the largest increase since September 2011 compared to 11.3% in February. Core import prices, excluding fuel and food, increased by 1.2% in March, compared to 0.7% in February, and on an annual basis, basic import prices rose by 7.1% in March, and imported fuel prices rose by 14.6% in March, as well as oil prices by 16.1% and also increased.
The cost of importing foodstuffs by 0.1%. The data showed that US export prices rose by 4.5% in March, the highest level since the beginning of records in January 1989, after a 3.0% increase in February, and on an annual basis, export prices rose by 18.8% in March, the highest level ever.
