US jobless claims rise to highest level since November 2021

The US Department of Labor said that claims for unemployment benefits in the United States rose by 9,000 to a seasonally adjusted 244,000 for the week ending July 9, the highest level since mid-November 2021.

Analysts had expected that the US jobless claims would record 235,000 applications last week, and the unadjusted jobless claims rose by 21,384 to 241314 applications last week. Continuing jobless claims in the United States fell by 41 thousand to 1.331 million during the week ending July 2, and the US economy added 372,000 jobs in June
