Macron and Trump announce a truce for tariff negotiations until the end of the year
French President Emmanuel Macron said today that he had a wonderful discussion he described with US President Donald Trump about a digital tax planned by Paris and said the two countries would work together to avoid raising tariffs.
A French diplomatic source said that Macron and Trump agreed to stop the possible tariff war until the end of the year and continue negotiations in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development on the digital tax during that period.
"They agreed to give an opportunity to negotiations until the end of the year and during that time period there will be no successive tariff," the source added, repeatedly saying that any international agreement on digital taxes reached within the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development would immediately replace French taxes.
