UK inflation rose to the highest level since 1981 in October
The Office for National Statistics said that consumer prices in the United Kingdom rose on an annual basis by 11.1% in October, the highest level since October 1981, compared to 10.1% in September.
The Office for National Statistics said prices of food and non-alcoholic drinks rose at the fastest rate since 1977, and core inflation, which excludes food, energy and other volatile components, was unchanged at 6.5% in October.
The Office for National Statistics said low-income households, which account for a larger share of spending on energy and food, suffered an inflation rate of 11.9% in October, while those with higher incomes faced an inflation rate of 10.5% in October.
